University of Canterbury Selects Workday to Build World-Class Digital Capability

University Transforms People, Finance, and Operations Technology to Drive Digital Excellence for the Future

AUCKLAND, July 25, 2024 - Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY), a leading provider of solutions to help organisations manage their people and money, today announced that Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury (UC), has selected Workday Enterprise Management Cloud as one trusted source for people, financial, and operational data, as part of a transformation to equip the University with the digital systems and processes needed for the future of education.

Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and founded in 1873, UC is New Zealand’s second oldest University. It comprises seven faculties, and offers a range of tertiary courses across Engineering, Science, Arts, Commerce, Business, Law, Health, and Education. It serves more than 25,000 students, supported by 2,300 staff. Building world-class digital capability is crucial to UC’s strategy and ongoing success, and will help enable the University to deliver relevant, distinctive, and high-quality learning, research, and collaborative experiences to a global audience.

The University’s ERP system was nearing end of life and lacked the functionality and ease of use needed for a modern, world-leading education institution. The University needed to undertake a transformation to improve systems and processes; aiming to future-proof core finance and people functions, enhance the staff workplace experience, create a cohesive research and student experience, and enable UC to operate with more agility and innovation as its core.

To help achieve these goals, the University selected Workday as its strategic partner to underpin its digital transformation. With Workday, UC will:

Improve data and insights for strategic decision-making. Real-time, accurate data will offer the insights needed to guide the University now and into the future.

Streamline and automate processes. By harnessing the power of Workday’s AI capabilities, UC will automate many manual processes to free up time and reduce errors.

Simplify its operations. The University will use Workday as its single source of truth across all people, financial, and operational data.

Support a great candidate and staff experience. UC will unlock a consistent way to recruit, onboard, and manage staff through Workday’s intelligent, flexible suite of HR applications that work better together.

"Digital capability is increasingly important for universities and the education sector as a whole," said Jonathan Brabant, Workday New Zealand Director. "Through this transformation, the University of Canterbury will continue creating a holistic, excellent learning experience for students and support the careers of thousands of staff with robust and future-ready systems and processes."
